Logo & Identity · SMAS - Sintra Brand Contest
SMAS is a public company responsible for the drinking water network as well as the waste-water service of the historic village of Sintra district in Portugal.
The logo is based on a typical form of Portuguese painted, tin-glazed, ceramic tilework called 'azulejo'. This art form was introduced in Portugal by the Moors in the 15th century and since then has become a typical aspect of Portuguese culture. This 'azulejos' are found on the public mourish fountains of Sintra: 19th century Romantic architecture.
Sintra is a Cultural Landscape - UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. A place of beauty.
